IDLE THRUST

Depending on the traffic situation, ATC will either use radar vectoring to final approach with distance-to-go (DTG) information or clear aircraft for RNAV «transition and profile».
2.1.1 During radar vectoring, pilots shall expect descent below FL 70 approx. 26 NM from touchdown.
Unless otherwise instructed by ATC, pilots are expected to
— reduce speed to max. 220 kts IAS prior to descent below FL 70
— aim for a low noise continuous descent approach
— maintain at lease 190 kts IAS to 12 NM final
— extend gear 2000 ft GND or later and
— perform final landing configuration approaching locator/outer marker.
2.1.2 Cleareance for RNAV transition may include clearance to follow vertical profile. When cleared for «transition and profile», pilots shall recpect the published levels and speed and aim for a low-noise continuous descent approach below FL 70. They should extend the landing gear only upon reaching 2000 ft GND or later and perform final landing configuration approaching locator/outer marker.
2.1.3 For monitoring purposes, a descent will be considered to be continuous provided that no route segment has a height changle of less than 50 ft over a track distance of 2 NM, as recorded in the Flight Track and Aircraft Noise Monitoring System (FANOMOS).
Between 2300-0500LT all inbound ACFT should expect clearances whereby final will
be reached not closer to the APT than:
— approximately 18 NM (RWYs 25R/L) and
— approximately 19 NM (RWYS 07L/R) from THR.
Pilots should subsequently expect a clearance for an ILS approach with GP
interception at 5000′.
In addition pilots should expect a clearance to descend below FL70 only 6 NM prior to
reaching the above mentioned points. Pilots should adjust their speed accordingly
(approximately 200-220 KT when leaving FL70) and are urgently requested to perform
their descent from FL70 as a continuous descent whenever possible.
In the event of technical failure of the ILS equipment, i.e. the need to fly
non-precision approaches, descent clearances to 4000′ will be issued.
Requests for non-precision approaches for training purposes will be denied.
The above procedures will not be applied to:
— flights with STS/HOSP
— flights in adverse weather conditions and
— flights in emergency situations.
