FUEL LOADING ORDER

Mains tanks must be filled first, as needed, and then auxiliaries at 10% of main quantity. Center tank if necessary and tail tank only if rest of tanks are full. If you takeoff without payload you must to balance the airplane with center tank, but then this fuel will not be used during the trip.

FUEL RESERVE CALCULATION

Add the result of this calculations to the trip fuel for get the total fuel onboard.

Alternative airport = Hours x 5 tons
Holding = 0.25 x 5 tons
Reserve = 0.5 x 5 tons

CONVERTING DISTANCE IN HOURS OF FLIGHT

A good approximation is: Total route distance / cruise ground speed. The normal cruising true airspeed of IL-62M is about 850 km/h, if the distance is in kilometers. Or 456 knots if the distance is in nautical miles. Now, the ground speed is equal to true airspeed if, and only if the wind speed around the airplane is zero. Of course this situation is quite a bit unrealistic, so you must add the spected route wind speed component to the true airspeed to obtain a proper approximation. This calculation discriminate the climb and descend stages speed differences with cruise stage, but this fact has not major importance due to the long distance this kind of machines use to be covered, and the fuel reserves you must load.
