GENERAL

Q: What is Dolomynum?
A: It is a lightweight tool to show the current status (members online as controllers and pilots) of online FSD-based flight simulation networks, specifically IVAO.aero and VATSIM.

Q: Is Dolomynum created by IVAO or VATSIM?
A: Neither, it is entirely independent (for the same reason, please do not contact the software teams of either network for support or features; contact the developer instead - see manual or website for contact info).

Q: Will Dolomynum have further options like showing routes, textures, flags, weather etc?
A: More features would mean a slower program. I am open to any suggestion but please remember that the main idea of Dolomynum is to be as light and fast as possible. Its purpose is to show the online status of networks, not to be an all-in-one tool for virtual aviation.

Q: Will Dolomynum show airline names and logos?
A: No it won't, mainly due to the sheer number of virtual airlines appearing, disappearing and changing every month, and the associated maintenance work. Please don't ask for it.

Q: Will Dolomynum show Scheduling?
A: This is planned for future versions, if networks give me permission to use their Scheduling data.

Q: I have a low end PC, how to improve performance?
A: Try to disable smoothing and loading country borders in dlmn.ini. Hiding all or some labels on the map also improves performance.

Q: How to display real headings of aircraft arrows, instead of them just pointing towards the destination?
A: In dlmn.ini set ShowActualHeading to 1 under [Map].

Q: The pilot popup does not display planned altitude and speed in numbers, and sometimes trims flight plans and comments.
A: Use the 'fp' command of the Companion to view the complete flight plan.

Q: How to connect to the network via proxy?
A: Add Proxy=(your proxy address:port) under [Network] in dlmn.ini. Still, there are some cases when proxy access will not work.

Q: Some data is incorrect or missing (airports not recognized, sector boundaries wrong...)
A: Please study the airports.dat, firlist.dat and firdisplay.dat files, and the current sectors using sectorview.exe. Send me any necessary corrections so I can include it in an update and keep the data centralized.
Note: VATSIM and IVAO use the same ICAO codes for different sector shapes, so there are some cases when a shape is correct for one network and incorrect for the other one. For these 'duplicates', Dolomynum contains the IVAO-version shape. If you use Dolomynum primarily on VATSIM, please copy the firdisplay.sup file from the \vatsim_sector_fix folder to the \data folder of Dolomynum.

Q: Can I import airports, airspaces etc from IvAe/ServInfo?
A: Dolomynum uses other data formatting, but you can convert their data files using the sconv.exe tool.

Q: How can I add friends who are not currently online?
A: Open friends.dat and add their IDs to the list, one per row.

TROUBLESHOOTING

Q: I have an error message that msvbvm60.dll is missing.
A: This is the Visual Basic 6 runtime which most computers have (and I didn't include it in the archive due its size). You can download a copy e.g. from support.microsoft.com/kb/290887.

Q: I get an error 'Path not found' at startup.
A: You should unzip the archive with 'use folder names' ON. Check if you have a \data subfolder (with .dat files in it) in your Dolomynum folder.

Q: I get an 'Error creating file' or 'Error unzipping data' after the data is downloaded.
A: Check if Dolomynum has permission to create files in its folder (run it from an admin account, or install somewhere else than C:\Program Files and similar foders). If you still can't get it to work, open dlmn.ini and add TextForce=1 under [Network].

Q: I don't have a dlmn.ini file in the folder.
A: The ini file appears only after running Dolomynum for the first time (this way you can avoid overwriting your settings when installing a new version).

Q: I changed entries in dlmn.ini but they are not reflected in Dolomynum.
A: Close Dolomynum before editing dlmn.ini, and restart it only after you saved the file.

Q: I have an old or on-board video card and I can't see text, borders, or there are other display problems.
A: Download http://projectmagenta.com/files/OpenGL.Zip and unzip its contents in the program's folder. Installing these files has a negative impact on performance so install them ONLY if you have severe problems with the display!

Q: I use Windows Vista and I see only a black screen.
A: Try right clicking on the DLMN icon, and check 'Disable desktop composition' at Properties.

Q: With a lot of traffic displayed, and labels enabled, scrolling is not smooth if zoomed out.
A: OpenGL displays the characters (letters, numbers) as small images, not as primitives. Try hiding all labels (F1) or at least airport labels (F4).

Q: Clicking on a CTR position has no effect, especially when zoomed out.
A: Try to click at the bottom left of the CTR label.

Q: The software always shows less connections on VATSIM than other sofware (f.i. Servinfo).
A: Dolomynum counts only individual members, it does not count ATIS stations or prefiled plans in the total number of clients.

Q: I get an error message 'No data to display'.
A: The server providing data may be down, your internet connection might have problems or you set a wrong proxy address. Note: the downloader has a default Request Timeout of 15 seconds. If you have a slow connection, consider setting this to a higher value in dlmn.ini under [Network]. If you have a fast connection, you can reduce this value in order to minimize waiting for non-responsive servers.
