Tips for flying with MiG

Start up

1) switch on external source of voltage and pilot
2) switch on all switches of airplane systems (except the last one)
3) switch on the cone and check AUTOM. position
4) switch on all motor swtches
5) switch on release the automatic brakes switch
6) switch on start through flight switch to the down position
7) push the start button
8) after start up
switch off external source of voltage and close the canopy

Rolling

Optimal speed for rolling is 30-50 km/h, use the differential brakes for turning

Takeoff

Trim the elevator trim up, extend flaps, switch on landing lights and engage the brake. Gradually raise the RPM to afterburner during brakes applied, then afterburner turns on (check annunciator panel T-6) and release the brakes. At speed 200km/h raise the front gear and at speed about 350km/h lift it up. Gear up at height more than 20 meters AGL and switch off the landing lights. Retract the flaps at speed more than 500 km/h and height more than 100 meters AGL.

Flight

Hold the airspeed above 400 km/h, because below 400 km/h the plane reacts very slowly and has got small lift and wings has got more drag. For supersonic airspeed is optimaly altitude about 12-15 kilometers. For acrobation is optimaly speed 900 km/h. During aileron roll a rotating speed shouldn't be more than 90 degrees per second, because in reality rotating speed more than 90 degrees per second cans cause uncontrolled rolling and crash.

Landing

I recommend using of radiopanel for landing. Start landing about 5-10 km before runway. Set on manualy controled needle in UGR-4U gauge by knob to runway heading and tune the frequency of NDB before runway on ARK panel. If you cannot see the runway at landing procedure (it is normal, because mig has got bad view from cockpit) you can use radio compass for orientation. Extend flaps at airspeed lower than 500km/h and gear down at speed about 400km/h. You must raise the RPM if you extend flaps and gear is down. During landing procedure you should keep the airspeed about 400km/h and touch down at speed 300-350km/h. During touch down the angle of attack should be 5-10°. After touch down you can use the drag chute for slowing down.

Shutdown the engine

Switch off "Idle Lock"(this is switch on POM) and pull POM to minimum. Switch off all switches and open canopy, switch on the ladder, chocks under wheels, covers of inlet and low pressure doors and switch off the pilot.
